About GFM Consult

An engineering consultancy grounded in codes and design philosophy.

We have delivered geotechnical, structural, and asset digitalisation work from Semarang, Indonesia, since 2024. Every recommendation starts from data, follows the applicable codes, and can be traced back to its calculations.

Differentia et Singularis: we treat every problem as a case of its own.

How we think

Four principles behind every job

  1. 01

    Start from data

Design begins with field and laboratory investigation, not assumptions. We can show where every parameter comes from.

    Investigation services
  2. 02

    Method follows mechanism

We choose the analysis method to match what is actually happening on site. When a landslide travels far, we model it with the Material Point Method.

  3. 03

    Traceable

Every number refers to the applicable code and can be checked by the client or an independent reviewer.

  4. 04

    Through to maintenance

Asset data does not end with the report. We keep it in a digital system so the next inspection and maintenance cycle has a basis.

Expertise

Disciplines and methods

Engineering

  • Geotechnical Engineering

Site investigation, foundations, earth-retaining structures, slope stability, and landslide remediation.

  • Structural Engineering

Condition assessment, analysis, design, and retrofit and strengthening of buildings and infrastructure.

Numerical modelling

  • Finite Element Modeling

Stress and deformation analysis for soil, structures, and their interaction.

  • Material Point Method (MPM)

Progressive-failure and runout simulation for landslides with very large deformation.

Data & digital

  • LiDAR

Scanning slope and structure geometry to measure deformation precisely.

  • BIM

Existing-condition models, defect and corrosion mapping, and retrofit design.

  • WebGIS

Interactive asset maps that bring field data, risk, and documentation together.

  • LHMS

GFM's own slope-risk management system for toll-road operators.

In-house analysis tools

We build the software we use

GFM develops its own finite element programs and civil engineering analysis tools, combining open-source code with in-house development. That way we understand every equation behind the numbers we report, and we can adapt our tools to the problem on site.

  • Finite element programs

Built from open-source code and our own development for geotechnical and structural problems.

  • Civil engineering analysis tools

Purpose-built programs for analysing and checking structural and geotechnical elements in everyday work.

Codes and standards

Grounded in nationally and internationally recognised codes

Our calculations follow the codes in force in Indonesia, supplemented by international standards where the project, the client, or the technical conditions call for them.

  • SNIIndonesian National Standards: geotechnical, seismic, concrete, and steel.
  • ACIAmerican Concrete Institute: design and evaluation of concrete structures.
  • AISCAmerican Institute of Steel Construction: steel structure design.
  • AASHTOBridge and pavement design.
  • EurocodeIncluding Eurocode 7 for geotechnical design.

Also sector guidelines such as Pd T-09-2005-B for slope failure remediation, the Ministry of Public Works guideline Kepmen PUPR 175/KPTS/2023 for road slope management, and the Hong Kong GEO Geoguides.

How we work

From investigation to maintenance

We tailor the scope to the need; not every project goes through every stage.

  1. Stage 1

    Investigation

Surveys, field and laboratory testing, scanning.

  2. Stage 2

    Analysis & modelling

    Numerical models and code-based calculations.

  3. Stage 3

    Design

    Drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.

  4. Stage 4

    Construction support

    Technical support during the works.

  5. Stage 5

    Asset monitoring

Inspection and risk data in a digital system.
